Class is seasonal as the correct temperature for dipping chocolates is important. Students will participate in dipping chocolates over a center, or using a chocolate mold. Material charges may apply.

Students will participate in making Hard Tack Candy. The candy will be poured into sucker molds and should harden sufficiently by the end of class to be taken home by the students for packaging. Material charges may apply.

Students will participate in making Peanut Brittle. Peanut Brittle takes time to cool before it can be broken into pieces, so if the student wants to take some home, a suitable metal or glass container should be brought to carry the still cooling peanut brittle from the class. Material charges may apply.

Pieces for the houses will be molded of solid chocolate using John Wright (1980 era) gingerbread house molds. House will be 4 x 5 inches and about 5 inches tall with about 1/4-inch-thick walls. The students will assemble and decorate the houses using chocolate and other candies. Uses about 1 ½ pounds of chocolate. Material charges will apply.

Basic Patterns for Bonnets, Aprons and other pioneer clothing will be available. Examples of simple-to-make pioneer era clothing will be displayed. Techniques for making simple women’s, men’s, and youth pioneer style clothing will be discussed. Two sewing machines, materials to sew pioneer clothing and the displays will be available in class. Patterns and tracing materials will be available to copy patterns that can be taken home for student to make more complicated items. Material cost may apply.

Soap making using fat and lye is called a ‘cold’ process soap. This type of soap making will be demonstrated and discussed. Students will see all the various steps, and participation is allowed. Precautions and safety equipment will be discussed, and variations for different types of soap will be discussed. Lye based soaps made with the “cold” process must cure an additional two weeks after removal from molds before using. Material costs may apply.

Students will be shown standard doll clothes patterns, and the differences to simplify a standard clothing pattern for use for doll clothes will be discussed. Best use of the class is to actually design and size a pattern to make clothing to fit a specific doll, so students are invited to bring a doll and the fabric that they would like to use and patterns will be developed for that project. Sewing machines will be available in the class. Some sewing could be done in class, but clothing likely will be finished outside of class.

Class will use materials and dyes to decorate eggs in a Ukrainian style. Class size is limited. This class can be performed remotely at customer location in some situations. Candles are used to heat wax that is applied in the process. Complexity of design possible is based on the skill level and imagination of the student. There will be a cost associated with materials used.
Class is portable.

English Smocking is a form of embroidery over pre-pleated fabric. It is commonly used for decoration, but the technique can also be used to anchor pleats. Students will be shown two basic stitches and will practice the embroidery techniques on their own project. Patterns for smocking are available commercially. Interpretation techniques for these commercial patterns will be discussed. Kit: contains pre-pleated fabric, Embroidery floss, needle that will be used for the project, and instructions.
Class is portable.

Carding is used to align the fibers in a fleece ahead of spinning or other uses for the fiber. Class will concentrate on carding of fine or medium wools. A drum carder will be demonstrated and used to make a carded batt. Students will participate in using the drum carder. Techniques for using the carded batts will be demonstrated. Blending on a blending board will also be demonstrated.
Class is Portable.
