Instructor will bring a rigid hettle table sized loom that is warped for the students to try out. Considerations for warping and weaving on this type of loom will be discussed.

Class will go over the basic concepts used for sculpture. Discussion of different types of clay and different construction techniques will be presented. Students will have time in class to make their own simple sculpture or jewelry dangle, and it will be fired at the end of class. There will be a charge for materials used in the class.

Requires the student to bring a project that has the tooling completed. Some types of projects require that the finish should be applied before assembly, so this should be taken into consideration. Dying, protective coating, and leather painting will be explored in the class. There will be a cost associated with the materials used.

Students will learn the basic principles of basket making, which is really a form of weaving. Each student will start weaving a small round basket. Techniques to finish the basket will be illustrated. Project will likely be finished outside of class. Kit: Reed sufficient to make one small basket and written instructions on how to weave a basket.

Students will explore using materials other than simple round reed, like flat reed, or other non-traditional materials to form a useful woven project of the student’s design. Project will likely be completed outside of class. Kit: Multiple materials sufficient to make a flat basket or other similar project will be provided.

With the Instructor’s help, students will design and make a shaped basket to combine with or accent another object, like a vase or shaped object. Project should be conceived before class, and suitable materials arranged. Project will involve building a “basket” to a specific shape or plan, using the techniques of basket making, but not necessarily materials that commonly are used to make baskets. Kit: Some materials needed may be provided by instructor. Material requirements should be communicated before the class.

Using a small beading loom, the student will design, setup a beading loom, and start making a beaded project on a small beading loom. Project size up to two inches by seven inches can be made on loom provided as part of the class. Kit: Small beading loom, beading thread, and a small collection of beads to use in the project.

Beading utilizes beads strung across strings in two directions, similar to weaving. Beading requires the use of a loom to hold the strings taut in one direction as the beads are installed with strings in the other direction. Students will be provided with the materials to make one beaded item, about five inches in length. Instructor will provide a simple loom for use in the class. Project will be completed within the class time. Kit: String, beads and two needles to be used for one project and a handout with instructions. End clasps to finish the beaded length into a bracelet are provided.

Class will introduce braiding with plastic lace, using simple four or six braid styles. Project will be completed outside of class. Material charge may apply.

This class is an introduction to braiding. Class will discuss types of materials that can be braided, and applications for braided constructions. Student will do braiding on a simple braiding loom. Two different project kits are available, one for a circular braid and the other for a flat braid. Project will be completed outside of class. Kit: Yarn, braiding loom, and instructions.
